MY VILLA CRAWL REPORTS – Jan/Feb 2010
I have visited all of these villas following requests by Trip Advisor forum members –
I offered to check out villas in the Seminyak and Canggu areas. I have, by no means,
visited ALL the villas that are available for holidays and there are others that I have
visited in the years gone by that are not included in this report eg, Villa Bali Asri
which I visited a few years ago. These villas merit a return visit at some stage in the
future as they are really beautiful. The location is great – a very short walk to the
beach, restaurants and shops. The décor of the villas I have seen is lovely – the only
drawback I can remember is the rather uneven pathway to the villas, which I would
not like to walk at night! I am quite happy to visit more villas next time I am in Bali
which will be in a couple of months if there are any more requests.
Please don’t forget that this report is based on my opinions only and there are sure to

be people who disagree with me.

THE AHIMSA ESTATE - Seminyak
There are 5 villas at the Ahimsa in Seminyak, which is about a 2-minute walk to the
beach, and Kudeta. There is a mixture of 1,2 and 3 bedroom villas here.
The 3-bedroom villa is very nice – quite compact, but comfortable design – 1
bathroom is inside and fully enclosed and the other 2 are inside/outside ones. The
lounge area is quite large and there is a separate, small dining area.
The pool is not very big but I guess it is adequate. The kitchen is also small but I
don’t find this a problem as I don’t cook when in Bali!
The 1 bedroom villa that we visited is very badly located, right next to the main road
and whilst you would not hear any traffic in the bedroom, it is an open bathroom and
it is right next to the road – noisy.
The pool is very small – a slightly larger than normal plunge pool would be the best
way to describe it. Make sure you don’t book this villa as I think the noise would
drive you mad!
Both villas were very nicely decorated.

VILLA AIR BALI - Seminyak
I have visited these villas once before but they only had 1 bedroom villas then and no
restaurant, spa etc etc. Yesterday we were given the full tour – 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom
and the gorgeous 4 bedroom villa. There are 13, 1 bedroom villas, 2, 2-bedroom and 1
with 4 bedroom which can also be rented as a 3 bedroom villa. The 1-bedroom villas
are very compact with nice, small pools just slightly bigger than a plunge pool - the
living area is smallish and the outdoor bathrooms are really huge, although the bath is
tiny! The TV in the bedroom is quiet small but otherwise the room is nicely
appointed, as is the bathroom. Breakfast is served in the villa but is made in the
restaurant. There is a very small kitchenette. There is a VERY small 1 bedroom villa
called the Bamboo Villa which, we were told, is suitable for smaller Asian people but
not really for Europeans! 
The 2 bedroom villas have larger swimming pools and are generally bigger (funny
about that!) - The kitchens are larger too but these villas have an overall ‘older’ look
about them – don’t know why really as I think they were built after the 1 bedroom
ones.
The 4-bedroom villa is really lovely – there is a huge kitchen, large dining area and 3
bedrooms plus bathrooms in the main building. Cross the water and you find yourself
in the very large lounge room with multiple sofas. This room can be enclosed or open
as there are expansive bi-fold doors on one side. The pool is large and there is
another bedroom and bathroom, which are separate from the other two pavilions.
This villa is on 800 sq metres of land.
Villa Air Bali would also be a great venue for a wedding as there is a large grassy
common area with a large pool with cascading water on many levels (hard to describe
but you can see it on the website!) I was told it is large enough for 250 for a buffet
style wedding and about 100 for a sit down meal.
There is also a large restaurant (Mata Air Café) and a spa all on the premises. Free
WiFi is also available.

AKASHA VILLA - Batubelig
Today I started my crawl with a bit of luxury in Batu Belig at Akasha Villas. These
villas are located about 2 minutes’ walk to the beach at Batu Belig and about 10
minutes drive to the centre of Seminyak. The website gives the address as Jl Kunti I
think but that is just the office and maybe even just the sales office. These are very
nice villas, mostly 3 and 2 bedroom – very luxurious and beautifully decorated with
all the mod cons – flat screen TVs etc etc. The lounge room can be completely closed
in which is quite a nice thing to be able to do when it is absolutely pouring with rain.
The one drawback to 2 of the villas is that there is a road that runs along the back of
the villas and this road is very busy and therefore very noisy! These villas are
expensive but if you hurry you can get a very special rate of USD 500 per night
before Chinese New Year!

ALILA VILLAS SOORI – near Tabanan
Yesterday we went for a drive further north up the coast as I was very keen to check
out the Alila Villas Soori , which have been open for 4 weeks. There will be 48 villas
plus one 10-bedroom villa suitable for weddings which is still under construction.
The resort is extremely difficult to find and I guess they are not too worried about that
as most people will be picked up from the airport or wherever and driven there, not
driving themselves as we were. Roads are so badly signposted in Bali and we ended
up going via Tabanan as we couldn’t find the small road we needed to find. The Alila
is 30 minutes’ drive from Tanah Lot and 1.5 hours drive from the airport and situated
on a beach that is not ‘swimmable’ – there were no surfers either.
The resort is really lovely but all blacks, greys and white colours – what is wrong with
a bit of colour? A touch of red would be nice somewhere in my humble opinion. 
The ocean front villas are on 2 levels, each with its own pool – yes, the pool upstairs
is on the roof of the villa downstairs! Anyhow, it is all very beautifully decorated
with absolutely huge bathrooms and quite good outside areas. These 1-bedroom
villas have no kitchen facilities but do have a Nespresso coffee machine! The upper
level villas have a great view of the beach and they are all very private. There are
also 3 bedroom vilas but we didn’t look at these – these all have larger pools and fully
equipped kitchens.
This is a luxury resort with golf buggies etc, large infinity main swimming pool, gym,
spa and 3 restaurants. It would be a great place to absolutely chill out for a few days
if you can afford it. At the moment it is the ‘soft opening’ so stay 1 night – get one
free!

ALU BALI -Petitenget
These villas are great. I have visited them before but that was quite a number of years
ago and I expected them to look a bit run down now, as things in Bali usually don’t
age very well. However, they still look very good. The walkways to the villas we
visited yesterday was just delightful, the staff very friendly and everything was
extremely clean. The villas have a decent sized living area with the kitchen well
hidden behind the wall at the end of the lounge area. There is a small working Hindu
temple in the grounds which is unexpected but lovely.
The pool is a decent size and there is free Wifi throughout the villas.
Alu Bali is located just a little bit further away from the shops of Seminyak but is
within walking distance to a number of very good restaurants. in Petitenget.
A great place to stay.

THE AMALA - Seminyak
These villas are really well located in Seminyak opposite Bali Deli – right in the heart
of the shopping area and yet very peaceful. I would suggest, though, that it is too far
to walk to the beach from here. There are 6 spa villas (with plunge pool steam
shower (?)) - these are 1-bedroom villas. There are 5 1-bedroom villas with a larger
pool (approx 6 metres long) and there is a 3 bedroom villa with an 8 metre pool.
They are all very well maintained and quiet. The spa villas are slightly newer than the
1-bedroom villas and they are in a separate area with a large communal pool, spa,
lounge and dining area. The whole complex is very nice, tastefully decorated and
very clean. The staff, as always in Bali, is very helpful. There is free WiFi at these
villas. I could stay here without a problem! The website photos are very true to life,
which is not always the case!

THE AMASYA - Seminyak
Once again, like Villa Aya, the location of these villas is perfect but there the good
points end! These villas are terrible, vying with the above as amongst the worst I
have seen to date. How can someone show a villa where the water is so dirty you
can’t see the tiles that are lining it? The area around the pool is completely devoid of
any vegetation and there is just a feeling of being hemmed in by high concrete walls.
Upstairs the 2 bedrooms are extremely boring and devoid of any character at all –
they are just bedrooms!
Downstairs the lounge area is quite large but there is a stupid little sofa and a tiny
bench area that apparently qualifies as a kitchen!
There is no WIFi in the villas. Did not see any guests – place looked empty and
unloved.
Unfortunately for The Amasya there is a huge apartment block being built on one side
which will result in all the villas on the left side all being overlooked by apartments,
adding to the hemmed in feeling that already exists!

ANAKULA VILLAS – Seminyak/Legian
These villas are absolutely impossible to find and there is no name shown on the
exterior, which makes it really difficult. I can’t tell you how many people we had to
ask and lots had never heard of them. The staff is very friendly and gracious.
There are 3 villas here and whilst the furnishings are quite nice, I wasn’t at all
impressed. They are rather small and once again, there is absolutely no vegetation
within the villa walls. When will developers, manager and owners learn that trees,
flowers and grass all add to a general feeling of ‘cool’? These villas are hot! There is
a small kitchen but the villas are going to age very, very quickly. Already the backing
on the mirrors is wearing off and these villas are near new.
I would not stay here because of the location, the heat generated by the concrete,
decking and walls and the general ‘closed in’ feeling. It had rained shortly before we
arrived and the laneway was like a swimming pool.
You would definitely need a car or a taxi here as it is out of the way.

VILLA ANGEL - Seminyak
This is a stand-alone 4 bedroom villa situated down a very narrow gang – there is a 90
degree turn at the bottom and we managed to scrape the car upon leaving – our car is
only small so I don’t think a people mover would be able to have access right to the
villa door. I certainly wouldn’t ask a taxi to venture down the gang. It is in the
minimalist style and is a single level villa.
The villa is lovely – a huge Western style kitchen and large dining/living area. There
are 3 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The pool runs almost the whole length of
the villa and is quite long (about 12 metres, I think). There is a large Bale in the
corner of the garden – a quiet place for an afternoon nap!
There is a butler service and also a villa maid, of course!
There is a quite a large art collection in the villa and the decoration is very tasteful.
The villa is very clean and well maintained.
There is free WiFi.
Good villa but location is not the best!

VILLA AYA - Seminyak
The location of these villas is fabulous and the grounds very spacious. It is amazing
that there is so much space and peace right in the middle of Seminyak. However, that
is where the positive side ends. These villas are definitely not the place to stay in.
They are old, shabby, dirty and look particularly uncomfortable. The staff hardly
speaks a word of English, the manager was unpresentable and the gardens very badly
maintained. We looked at 2 /2 bedroom villas and were most unimpressed overall.
There are 2 bedrooms on either side of the garden with a weird, open ‘living’ area in
the middle – you would definitely be ducking for cover in the bedroom if it started to
rain. There are no sunbeds around the pool and there is no WiFi, in fact the manager
looked quite blank when we asked the question! I don’t advise anyone to stay here! I
think only one villa had guests which speaks for itself.

VILLA BALIANA – Seminyak/Legian
This is a stand-alone villa not very far at all from the one above. It is more like a
home than a holiday villa in that it is a house that can be completely closed up – a lot
of the others have open lounge areas. There are 3 bedrooms – 2 of them have an
interconnecting bathroom and the other has its own bathroom. The style is older style
Balinese but it still has a good feel about it. The villa maid showed she and me
around seemed to be lovely – she prepares breakfast and any other meals you might
want and I think her husband must look after the pool and garden. I have the feeling
they live on-site. The pool and garden are very spacious – a great villa if you have
kids I would think. There is an upstairs but this only has bamboo lounge chairs etc
and I don’t think you would use it really. There is A/C in the bedrooms and a fan in
the lounge room. There is internet but you do have to pay extra for it. You can hear
the waves from the garden – nice! There is off street parking if you happen to have a
car.

BE VILLAS - Seminyak
These got us beat – absolutely impossible to find – no exact address on their website
and no one has heard of them. There is no Bali phone number on their website either.
Do they really exist??????? Jl Laksmana as an address is just not good enough! If
someone can find a more exact address I am happy to try again.
BE VILLAS – I found them!!!!
These villas are also very well located about 10 minutes walk to the beach and very
close to Seminyak Square and lots of restaurants and shops. They are perhaps in need
of a bit more maintenance, especially considering they are only a couple of years old.
I believe the rates for these villas are quite reasonable and therefore I think they are
really great value for money. The kitchen is adequate (who wants to cook in Bali
anyhow?)The garden area is not large but then that is not necessary either. I would be
quite happy staying in these villas, but they are VERY hard to find.

VILLA BERMIMPI BALI - Seminyak
These 2 villas are extremely difficult to find as there is no signage and no one seems
to have heard of them. They are 2 stand alone villas down a small gang very well
situated in Semiynak – a 5 minute walk in one direction to the beach and a 5 minute
walk in the other direction to the restaurants on Jl Laksmana. This area is starting to
house quite a few villas, including Chimera, C2, C151, Malissia and Samuan.
I had a look at the ‘purple’ villa and it differs from the other one only in its colour
scheme – purple! You really have to like the feminine touch if you stay here, nothing
wrong with that but the men in your family may have a problem – there are lots of
artificial flowers and pretty objects everywhere – glad it’s not me doing the
housework!
The swimming pool is tiny but enough to cool down in – the garden surrounding the
villa is not large but has everything you need. The lounge room is not big either but
then, this is a 2-bedroom villa so there wouldn’t be many people to share it with!
The bedrooms are decorated with some great flowery wallpaper. This is a 2-bedroom
villa but can be rented as a 1 bedder with the upstairs bedroom being locked and
inaccessible.
These villas do have free WiFI – normal for Bali!

C2 VILLAS - Seminyak
These villas are almost next door to the above villas and there are 3 villas, 2 with 3
bedrooms and 1 with 2 bedrooms. The villas have the rather lovely names of Smile,
Joy and Dream – they can all be opened up to form 1 big area with 3 swimming pools
for larger groups or the wooden fences can be closed and there are 3 entirely separate
villas with private pools. It’s a great concept that is happening more and more in Bali
– instead of small doors connecting different villas, large partitions are used to
completely open up gardens for more of a communal feel. It gives a great feeling of
space too.
These villas are really fabulous – over each of the dining tables there are 2 super
chandeliers, which lend an air of luxury to the whole area. All the furnishings in the
lounge areas, pool areas and bedrooms are fabulous and difficult to fault really. I
loved the 2 huge paintings of the owners’ dog over the buffet in the Smile villa – SO
well painted from tiny photos that they look like photos themselves.
I am not going to go into detail re bedrooms, bathrooms etc in these villas – suffice it
to say that all 3 of them look absolutely gorgeous and I wouldn’t change a thing, apart
from probably getting a painting done of my own dog and hang it above the buffet!
There is a decent car parking space outside the villas and also a kitchen for the staff to
cook meals in that is separated from the main villa. The kitchen in the villas is really
only for heating food and very basic cooking – people after my own heart – who
really want to cook in Bali when it is cheaper to eat out?

CHIMERA VILLAS - Seminyak
This small complex of 3 villas was a great surprise – there are 2- 2 bedroom villas and
1 – 3 bedroom villas in the complex. They are extremely well located about 10
minutes’ walk to the beach at Kudeta – also very close to Jl Laksmana and all the
shops and restaurants located on that street, probably 5 minutes’ walk.
Villa #1 is probably the better of the 2 bedroom villas as it is slightly larger and also
cooler as it does not get all the afternoon sun that #2 gets. The pools are about 10
metres in length and the lounge area is quite extensive. Once again, the bathrooms
are indoor ones and are all very nicely appointed. There is some building work in
front of this villa but I have been reassured that it is only for about another month – at
the moment there is a bit of construction noise that would be a bit disturbing during
the day.
Villa #3 is just gorgeous – the pool is about 16 metres long and the garden area very
large. The master bedroom has its own private lounge area and is a very peaceful
retreat. The lounge/dining/kitchen area is also very large and there is another
bathroom in this area.
There is free WiFI in all the villas.
I would also highly recommend this villa.

CICADA TOWNHOUSES - Seminyak
This complex is really well located in Seminyak – just a short walk to the beach at La
Lucciola and not far from numerous restaurants in Petitenget such as the Living
Room, Blossom and La Lucciola.
When you walk into the complex there is a very large and lovely communal
swimming pool in the middle surrounded by tropical garden.
We visited a 2-bedroom townhouse - there are only about 6 in the complex with a
mixture of 1,2 and 3 bedrooms. There is a spacious lounge/dining area downstairs
with a small kitchen – I think we were told that breakfast provisions are left in your
kitchen for you to make your own breakfast. The kitchen is adequate but quite small.
There is a plunge pool in the private back courtyard and another deck with umbrella
upstairs outside the master bedroom. The bedrooms are both very well decorated and
the bathrooms are outdoor ones.
These are townhouses, not villas, so I am not sure if there is any noise to be heard
through the common walls – I hope not. There are some townhouses that connect
with others to make it easier for larger groups to be together.
They were all spotless and the whole complex is very well maintained.

VILLA COCO - Seminyak
These villas have obviously been in existence for some time but we were shown a
lovely 2-bedroom ‘open plan’ villa that is only new. I believe the owners are
gradually upgrading the villas and there will be more and more new ones in the
coming year.
The bedrooms are simple but good and the lounge area is quite large and the pool is a
decent size too. One of the bedrooms has a private courtyard with a small table and
chairs, which is a nice touch.
We were not shown any of the older villas as they were all occupied.
Some of the villas do not have their own pool but there is a communal pool for the
use of these guests (and others, of course!)
There is only WiFi in the main pool area, not in the villas.
These villas are pretty good for the price and the location is great – in a gang off Jl
Double Six, so right in the heart of a lot of action.
VILLA ECHO BEACH – Echo Beach, Canggu
This is 1 villa in a group of, I think, 4 villas – they are all together but I think they all
have different owners, they do share common walls. The pool is quite large; the
garden fairly ordinary and there is a separate dining/kitchen area. In the main house
there is a lounge room , bathroom and bedroom downstairs and 2 more bedrooms and
bathrooms upstairs. I was unable once again to go inside the bedrooms and
bathrooms as there were guests staying (although they were out when we went).
This villa is a good 5-minute walk to the beach at Echo Beach and the villa is down a
laneway. The downside? There is construction going on all around this villa and the
laneway is a mud bath. I imagine there would be a lot of noise during the day and
construction workers everywhere.

HELICONIA VILLAS - Seminyak
These villas are very well located on Jl Laksmana – right in the middle of it all and
yet down a gang and extremely quiet once you are inside. This is an older complex
but still looks very good and there are renovations being carried out at the moment at
the 2 storey bungalows. There are 1 and 2-bedroom villas here. The 1-bedroom
villas have a rather small lounge area – a bit hard to get away from your partner if you
need to! The pool is not large either but enough to cool you down! The 2 bedroom
villas have a much larger pool and lounge area.
These are also good villas – no problem staying here! They are clean and well
maintained which, to me anyway, is very important. The only thing that lets them
down is the rather run down reception area and the ‘old house ‘(?) you have to walk
past to get to the villas.
There is free WiFi at these villas.

VILLA ISTIMEWA - Seminyak
Once again very difficult to find but we now have an exact address from the manager
and will try again next week. She could not have been more helpful on the phone so
worth looking at.
VILLA ISTIMEWA
Theis stand-alone villa is in a fabulous location in the middle of Seminyak and an
easy walk to shops and restaurants on Jl Seminyak. It is down a small gang that
cannot be accessed by car but is only about 20 metres from the main road. The villa
is 7 years old but was very well renovated about 1 year ago. There are 4 bedrooms, 3
of which are in the main house and 1 that is in the garden with its own little bathroom.
The bedrooms are not large but who spend time in the bedroom except to sleep? The
stairs to the 3 bedrooms in the house are a little steep and probably not easily
negotiated if you have had a couple of drinks but there are a couple of very nice
outside areas upstairs. The lounge room is down about 5 steps and you can see into
the swimming pool from the lounge room.. It is all very comfortable. The
swimming pool is lovely as are the gardens. All in all a great place to stay – quiet
and yet in the midst of it all!

VILLA IXORA - Petitenget
The location of these villas is pretty awful – the gang is absolutely full of potholes
and you need wheels to get anywhere. The villa maid did say that when you call for a
taxi you will get one within 10 minutes (beats Sydney!) and it is a 10-minute walk to
the beach. The entrance to the villas is very run down and I didn’t think it would get
a good report from yours truly but IF you have wheel and IF you want a quiet holiday
then this is one of the places to go. They have 6 rooms that are OK – there is a main
pool (quite large) for these rooms and also a large restaurant/ lounge area in front of
the owner’s villa. They also have 2 other villas – 1 with 2 bedrooms and 1 with 3
bedrooms. Both villas were occupied so we were unable to inspect them but they
both seemed to have fairly large pools and very spacious gardens. A lovely hideaway
if you don’t always want to go out!

THE KAYANA - Petitenget
We visited these villas as their name crops up now and again on the forums – these
are mainly 1 bedroom villas with only, once again, a very small ‘living’ area outside
under a kind of bale arrangement – in the case of rainy weather you would have no
choice but to reture to the bedroom, which is very nice, well furnished, modern, fairly
large and very clean. Each villa has a small pool and there is also a large communal
swimming poo, restaurant and a lovely spa. Altogether there are 24 villas with rather
a long walkway down the middle – it is all very nicely maintained. However, there is
one drawback, apart from the lack of living space, and that is that the W hotel is being
built behind these villas and there is a large number of cement trucks driving down
the right hand side of the resort. If you want to go there, ask for a villa on the left!
The Kayana has WiFi in the villas.
The Kayana is part of the same group that owns the Samaya but for some reason it
just didn’t appeal to either of us- maybe the lack of living space?

VILLA KEMBALI - Seminyak
This complex has 7 villas – 4/ 2 bedroom and 3/3 bedroom villas. They are very well
located on Jl Sari Dewi about 5 minutes’ walk to the beach at Kudeta and close to
restaurants and shops. They are situated in a gang and are really very peaceful – you
would not know that you are right in the middle of it all.
The 2 bedroom villas have a pool that is about 8 metres in length and a small grassy
area. The kitchens are simple but well equipped. All these villas have queen sized
beds.
All these villas are very tastefully decorated and the whole complex is very well
maintained and very clean.
2 of the 3 bedroom villas have 12 metre pools and quite a large grassy area. The 3rd 3
bedroom villa also has an extra TV room which can also be transformed into another
bedroom with 2 twin beds, so the whole villa can sleep 8 people. The pool and
grassed areas is slightly larger than the other 2 3 bedroom villas. One of the other 3
bedroom villas has a queen sized bed that can be transformed into twin beds whilst
the other has 1 king sized bed and 2 queen sized ones. This is great when there are
children who need to be accommodated.
All villas have lovely waterways which could possibly be a problem with toddlers.
The villas all have free WiFi.
The same architect designed these villas as Saba, Villa Bali Asri and Asante and looks
really great.
I would not hesitate to stay here either!

VILLA KUBU RAMA – Echo Beach (Canggu)
This group of villas consists of 3 4 bedroom villas and 1, 1 bedroom villa. They are
located about 3 minutes walk to the famous Beach House restaurant and also the other
restaurants in the area, of which I think there are at least 4 others. The 1 bedroom
villa is just a wee bit pokey with a rather small pool, an outdoor bale and small lounge
area and kitchen.
The 4 bedrooms villas have a huge living/dining area and are really quite nice. I was
unable to see the bathrooms or go inside the bedrooms as all the villas are occupied.
The pool and garden areas are quite large. There is free WiFi

.
VILLA JERAMI
These villas are located directly behind Bali Deli (Jl Kunti) in Jl Bali Deli! There are
quite a large number of villas here – 13 which have been built for 3 years and another
6 which are almost ready to rent. The welcome we were given was delightful – the
staff very gracious and we were even given a lovely healthy fruit drink when we
finished our tour! No Bintang for those obsessed with Bintang! There are 1,2 and 3
bedroom villas and the grounds are very well maintained. It is quite a long walk from
the front office to the new villas and I think it would be much better if they planted
some lovely leafy palm trees or similar to provide some shade on the long trek to the
back.
The rooms are a decent size and also have decent sized living areas, unlike some we
saw yesterday. The pools also are larger than plunge pools and quite a decent size,
especially in the larger villas. Not sure about WiFi but I would be very surprised if
they didn’t have it.
All in all – very nice villas, well located.

VILLA KUBU - Seminyak
These villas are about 10 years old, so in the rather lovely typical Balinese style rather
than the modern, clean-cut style that tend to be the norm these days. They have a
really wonderful feel about them, are very spacious and very clean. We looked at a 3
bedroom villa and found it pretty hard to fault actually. The gardens are very lush and
well maintained. The swimming pool was large – about 15 metres long I think but I
guess they are smaller in the smaller villas. There is WiFi access and a spa on the
premises. There is also an iPod and docking station.
The downside? I don’t think the location is brilliant – I would not walk the streets
around there in the dark and at most times a taxi would be needed to go anywhere
else. The road is in very bad condition and there is quite a lot of construction going
on in the neighbourhood, although I don’t seen this as a noise problem for Kubu at
present.

VILLA KUNJA - Petitenget
I actually inspected these villas a couple of years ago – the same person who
developed The Dusun villas – a very successful complex in Seminyak, developed
them. The location is not all the great – you need transport to get anywhere but they
do provide free transport to Kuta, Legian and Seminyak during the day – all day I
think.
The villas are lovely and very nicely furnished. The complex is HUGE and they have
golf carts to get you from one end to the other. There are villas with interconnecting
doors so great if there is a large group.
There is also a wedding chapel on site with lovely surrounding gardens. It is a very
impressive complex and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

MAN & WOMAN VILLAS - Seminyak
These villas are SO hard to find and are located on a very bumpy dirt road! These
villas are geared to honeymooners as they are all 1 bedroom and they admit that is
their target market. Having said that – they are nice, once you find them! They are
somewhere behind Sunset road!
There is a huge main pool near the entrance with a very interesting transparent wall
and this area also doubles as the dining/ lounge area.. The reception area has a corner
that is equipped with multiple screens and videos of various attractions around Bali in
order that guests can choose their tours with the aid of films in their own language.
The villas are very spacious, especially the bathrooms which are larger than the
bedrooms. The bathrooms are decorated with red mosaic tiles so you have to like
bright colours! Each villa has a private, smallish pool that is indoor/outdoor but, once
again, the main pool is available for those who want to exercise.
There are tea and coffee making facilities in each villa and you can dine in your own
villa if you wish.

VILLA MAJU - Seminyak
This villa is managed by the Serene Group of villas. It is well located on Jl Drupadi,
not very far from Uma Sapna Villas so not too far from Jl Seminyak (Basangkasa)
and maybe 15 minutes’ walk to the beach. Also a quick walk to the top end of Jl
Laksmana
The villa was actually occupied when we went so we were unable to peek into the
bedroom but the pool is a really good size, the garden is lovely and the dining/lounge
area are very nice. There are 2 bedrooms at the far end of the garden and another 1 at
the top end near the entrance. There is a large bale on the opposite side of the garden
to the main dining pavilion.
The villa is exactly as it looks on the website – really comfortable and spacious.
Sorry I couldn’t look more closely but really felt as though we were intruding enough
already.
Good villas but a bit out of the way as far as location is concerned. The taxi drivers
would not be happy!

VILLA MASSILIA - Seminyak
I have briefly written about this villa elsewhere but am adding it here in case some
people didn’t see it in my other post.
There are 2 villas in this complex – 1 with 3 bedrooms and 1with 4 bedrooms – they
can be opened up to form one large complex with 2 pools as there is a sliding fence
between the 2. I only visited the 4-bedroom one.
They are very well located on a gang that runs between Jl Laksmana and Jl Sari Dewi
so only about a 5 minute walk to restaurants and shops one way and a 10 minute walk
to the beach in the other direction.
The 4-bedroom villa is just gorgeous – the grounds are fairly large and the pool is
very big. There is a lovely bale in the garden – the lounge area is really beautifully
decorated as are the bedrooms . There are 2 bedrooms in the main building and 2
others in a wing on one side.
The kitchen is fabulous and there is WiFi in the villas.
Don’t hesitate to book this one!

MUTIARA VILLAS - Seminyak
Once again, these villas are very well located about 5 minutes’ walk to Jl Laksmana
and therefore to the restaurants in that area and about 15 minutes’ walk to Petitenget
Beach at La Lucciola. Once behind the villa walls it is extremely peaceful. These
villas are only about 5 years old but starting to show their age – they are clean but
need a bit of up dating as far as I am concerned. The terrazzo benches and bed etc
look uncomfortable and dated. The garden area is a good size and so is the pool.
The outside kitchen is smallish but I repeat that for me that is not a problem!
There are 1,2 and 3 bedroom villas. Quite honestly, unless you can stay at these villas
for a very good price I would look at others in the area.
WiFi here is NOT free – 30,000 rupiahs per hour, which I find totally overpriced,
especially when it is free at all the surrounding cafes and restaurants.

LAKSMANA VILLA – SHINTA DEWI - Seminyak
This villa is located in a group of villas managed by Prestige Villas. There are 13 in
the area, all served by a private road with security at the entrance. The location is
really great – opposite the Samaya Resort in Seminyak, a short distance walk to La
Lucciola and other great restaurants in the area and the beach. All villas are
individually owned and all are of different designs.
Shinta Dewi is really lovely – the kitchen is a large, Western style (not that I would be
worried about that as I maintain it is cheaper to eat out in Bali than it is to buy all your
products and cook at home!). It is a lovely kitchen though – the dining room is next to
the kitchen and above these 2 is a lovely, large open lounge area where you get a
lovely breeze. This pavilion is to the right as you enter the property. To the left is the
‘Master Wing” – a small lounge area with TV, bedroom and bathroom. Next to the
lounge area is a small gym with 3 pieces of gym equipment (no A/C, just a ceiling
fan).
At the end of the garden is another pavilion with a lounge area on the ground floor
and 2 more bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms upstairs.
The pool is in the middle and it is quite a decent size.
The whole villa is lovely and I think you can have a pretty good holiday here!
SEMBILAN – Sorry but I was unable to visit this one as there were guests in
residence!

NUNIA SPIRIT VILLAS - Seminyak
We visited a 2-bedroom villa and were quite disappointed as it was not well
maintained at all – these villas are only 3 years old but look at least 10 years old.
Having said that, the lounge and kitchen area were very nice and well decorated but
the bedrooms and bathrooms need quite a bit of TLC. The bathrooms are indoor ones
for those who try to avoid mosquitos. There is a quite a large waterway and pond
with stepping-stones so this villa would not be suitable for young children. There is a
very sad, rusty looking outside table where I don’t think you would sit, as it is far too
hot! The pool towels were originally pale blue and white but are now a dirty blue and
grey – not a good look at all!
I really don’t recommend this villa unless you can get it for a very good price. It’s ok
– but there is a lot of competition around and these just don’t compete really.
Location is not that great either, I’m afraid.

VILLA PLAWA ASRI - Seminyak
Imagine my amazement when we finally found this villa – almost next door to Villa
Kubu where we had been the day before – If only I had known! The name is written
on a tiny wooden plaque over the front gate and a few metres from the road. They
really don’t want to be found! Of course there is a security ‘box’ out the front but of
course it was empty – hopefully it is manned during the night!
This is a stand alone villa and not part of a group/. It is of the older Balinese style, that
is, has a large garden and a lovely ‘homey’ feeling to it. It has 3 bedrooms, the main
one being larger than the other 2. The main bedroom was a bit dark for my liking but
the 2nd one was better. When they are dark like that I can’t see what the housekeeping
is like! There is a separate lounge area (quite large) and a few stepping stones (large
enough to manoeuvre if you have had a few!!) between the dining room and the
lounge area Both of these are open areas. The pool looks good and clean. The staff
very friendly, as is usual in Bali! There is internet but no WiFi.
One thing that I did say about Kubu and I have to say here about the long walk to Jl
Legian – yesterday I noticed a lovely gang (laneway) that is a short cut to the main
road and it seems that it is only about 200 metres to Bintang Supermarket. This is
great for during the day but I am not too sure about this at night? Maybe it’s a bit
dark and a taxi would be safer.

VILLA POPPY - Seminyak
Down a laneway from Jl Legian – wide enough to start with in the car but then you
have to reverse out – good fun! This is a large stand-alone villa, which also had
guests – the guests are leaving in a couple of days so I will return!

VILLA POPPY
This stand-alone villa is located down a gang, which runs off Jl Legian and is
probably a good 5 minute walk from the road. The beach is a 10 minutes walk in the
other direction so the location is good.
This is an older villa with a large garden – the pool is all right – it is a pity it is not
larger as the garden area is huge and there is a lot of wasted space. It would be great
also if there was more shade in the garden – it was very hot.
The house itself could do with some TLC and the only bathroom I saw was very old
and in need of an update. I was unable to visit any bedrooms, as there were guests in
residence. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs and 1 upstairs – there are 3 bathrooms.
No WiFi – in fact no internet at all I don’t think.

PRADHA VILLAS - Seminyak
Once again these villas are very well located in the street that runs from Bodyworks to
Grocer and Grind – an easy walk to the beach at La Lucciola. There are 11 villas in
the complex, both 1 and 2 bedrooms. They do offer a shuttle servcie into Seminyak
and Kuta although it is really close to restaurants in Seminyak and Petitenget. The
bedrooms are very nice with flat screen televisions.
As always, staff is very friendly and only to keen to help.
A good place to stay but maybe a but expensive – you would really need to work on
the published rates!

VILLA PRANA - Petitenget
Yet another frustrating one – found it easily enough as it is in a gang more or less
opposite Biku restaurant on Jl Petitenget but it is a large house with 6 rooms that are
all rented out separately and they were all full so no chance of an inspection. Sorry
Jade_du but I actually don’t think this is your kind of place!

VILLA PRANA- Batubelig
This is another stand-alone villa in Batu Belig, probably about 10 minutes’ walk to
the beach. It has 3 bedrooms and a nice large pool. The décor is OK although not in
the same class as others I have seen, especially Istimewa. The road access is terrible
despite the fact that there are quite a few residences along the road.
Yes, there are 2 different Villa Prana – don’t get them mixed up!
ROBIN”S PLACE - Legian
I’m really sorry but we went there and no one answered the doorbell! Will try again
some other time.

SABA VILLAS - Canggu
I had to visit these villas as the architect is known to me and I watched them being
built. I also pass by them everyday on the way to my place and have always been
curious about them! There are 5 villas in the complex – 4 with 2 bedrooms and 1
with 1 bedroom. They have been very cleverly designed in that all villas can be
linked or kept completely private. They are just gorgeous – the pools are great, the
decoration is in very good taste and the grass is so soft you sink in about 3 inches!!!!
Obviously they have al mod cons too – WiFi etc and the complex is staffed with
butlers and chefs. To all those who are looking for a villa to hold a smallish wedding
this complex would be great as it can be opened up for the ceremony etc and then
closed for privacy after the ceremony. These villas would be my pick out of today’s
visits but of course they are right up there in price too! The only drawback once again
would be the location – whilst only about 5 minutes drive to Seminyak you do need
transport as there are only a couple of restaurants within walking distance. The
architect also designed Villa Atas Ombak, Villa Kembali and Villa Asante, amongst
others!

VILLA SAMUAN - Seminyak
I visited this one, as it is next door to Massilia – in the area so may as well! Whilst
Massilia is lovely and light – limed wood and peaceful colouring Samuan is dark –
the wood has been blackened which makes the whole place seem rather hot. This is
kind of a weird design – with different pavilions and 2 pools – apparently the villa can
be split in 2 and the 2 ‘ends’ rented separately but there is no kind of fence between
then so I am not sure how it works. The bigger pool is lined with black tiles (‘to keep
the water warm’!) and the other one is of a lighter colour but still kind of dark. The
main lounge area has a very high ceiling but there is not ceiling fan or A/C so can
only be cooled with a flow through breeze, presuming there is one!
Whilst I am sure the design is good I am really still trying to work out the whole
place! It looks great on the website but lacks something in reality!
Needless to say that I way preferred Massilia to Samuan but this is my opinion only
and others may just love the place!

VILLA SANTI - Seminyak
This villa is part of Seminyak Gardens and no one in the area has ever heard of it.,
once again there is no signage. It is almost impossible to find but we did find it after
a hot 15-minute walk from Jl Dyana Pura! No signs, a very dirty gang to access it
past Dyana Pura Villas and once we got there all we could do was try to talk to a
security guy who does not speak English – he was unable to show us the villas and
we learnt from someone else that the office is in Jl Drupadi. We did not bother to go.
I would not stay in these villas, as the location is just terrible, the gang has no lighting
so I would not walk there during the night and taxi access is not easy. It is only
accessible by car from Jl Dyana Pura although you can access it by foot from Bintang
supermarket. It would be about 10 minutes walk from Jl Raya Legian. Forget it!

SARI UMA COTTAGES - Seminyak
These are also in a good location – about 5 minutes’ walk to the beach and also to Jl
Dyana Pura. I looked at both the deluxe and the superior villas – the deluxe one had a
good sized pool but the superior one had a rather small pool and was much more
ordinary than the deluxe one. They are simple villas but are probably quite
comfortable. There is a bit of traffic noise from the road, which runs alongside,
especially bike noise that would really annoy me. The bathrooms are nothing to write
home about either.

VILLA SEMARA – part of ANDARI VILLAS – Seminyak/Legian
This is a really lovely more traditional style 3 bedroom villa right in the heart of
Legian/Seminyak – to me it is more Legian but then I didn’t write the address. The
grounds are large – there is a separate area where there is a day bed, 3 large looking
bedrooms, a lovely pool and a lovely large lounge room. I’m sorry but I was unable
to check out the bathrooms as the villa was actually occupied but the guests were out
for the day – I just had a peek in one of the bedrooms through the glass. I also didn’t
check the kitchen as I always feel as though I am in someone else’s house when there
are guests and don’t like to be too nosey. The location is just great – the gang is
opposite the Kumala Hotel – really ideal if you want to see Yanto! It never ceases to
amaze me that it is always so quiet once you are inside these villas – you would never
know that you are in the midst of it all. Great location and really lovely villa., part of
a villa complex but this is the only villa I visited.

THE SEIRYU - Seminyak
I just had to inspect these ones as I pass by continually and my curiosity got the better
of me yesterday. They cater for the honeymoon market and the majority of their
guests are from either Japan or Korea so the decoration has been done with this in
made. It is really quite weird and unless you are looking for a fairly unromantic place
to spend a honeymoon I wouldn’t stay there. All the ‘villas’ are 1 bedroom
(obviously!) and whilst the bedrooms and bathrooms are quite nice the pool is small
and enclosed and the decoration IMHO is pretty hideous!

VILLA SEDAP MALAM – VILLA SEKAR TAMAN 2 - Seminyak
I have read so much about these villas but I was really very disappointed. There are 4
villas in this complex and the location is good – about a 2-minute walk to the beach at
Seminyak and not far from Jl Dyana Pura. They are all 2-bedroom villas and almost
identical, I believe. There are 4 different Aussie owners so I guess the decoration
varies from one to the other, not sure as I only visited one of the villas.
The pool is VERY small – quite a shock really for the size of the garden – an
oversized plunge pool once again – just as well the beach is not very far.
The kitchen looks good and the lounge room is fairly large.
The 2 bedrooms are upstairs and identical – the main bedroom had a terrible smell
emanating from the bathroom (sewerage problems) but this could be a temporary
problem. The decoration is pretty standard and nothing to write home about.,
especially in the bedrooms

THE SHORE VILLA

Yes, we finally made it to Seseh Beach, which is part of the Canggu area – a bit
further north of Pererenan but not much. The Shore Villa is located on the beach, with
a small road between the villa and the beach. The views from the villa are extensive
coastline views and there would be quite a lot of action with fishing boats as there are
quite a lot of fishermen’s huts on the beach. The villa itself is in a very large garden
and it has 3 bedrooms – at the rear of the garden is another guest wing with 2 more
bedrooms and bathrooms. We did not look at these bedrooms as they were padlocked!
The main house has a very long (30 metres) lap pool that actually runs under the
lounge room. The floor of the lounge room is glass so you can see the pool at your
feet whilst you are relaxing on the sofa – very unusual, but it works! There is another
very large swimming pool situated at the front of the house.
There is a master bedroom downstairs with an open bathroom – it all smelt just a wee
bit stuffy but I guess that is because there are no guests at the moment and the house
needs to be aired. Upstairs there are 2 more bedrooms with enclosed bathrooms and
also a TV room. The upstairs bedrooms have lovely balconies with great beach views.
The decoration is all very tasteful. There is a great kitchen downstairs and a lovely
wooden dining table in the adjoining dining room.
There is WiFi but I believe it is not free.
This is a lovely villa which is probably about 20 minute’s drive to
Seminyak and
about 5 minute’s drive to Echo Beach where we went for dinner and sunset after our
Sunday drive!

VILLA SUAR - Seminyak

This is a really lovely 4 bedroom stand-alone villa in the back road not very far from
many shops, restaurants and Seminyak Square. It is pretty new. It is probably about
10-15 minutes’ walk to the beach at La Lucciola near the Petitenget Temple.
The master bedroom is upstairs in the main wing and there is another bedroom
directly underneath this one. The other 2 bedrooms are in a separate wing on the
other side of the pool. The bathrooms are all indoor bathrooms but they are really
lovely.
The lounge area is open but there is also a separate, enclosed TV room with lovely
comfy sofas.
There is a large bar in the lounge but behind this is a very well equipped Western
style kitchen with ……dishwasher!!!! Do you really need one of these in Bali? It is
there, however!
The largish garden also has a very nice bale. There is free WiFI in the villa.
A rather impressive villa where I could stay anytime!

SUN ISLAND VILLAS -Seminyak

These villas are very centrally located about 200 metres south of Bintang supermarket
on Jl Raya Seminyak – they are located on the main road but the accommodation is
quite a long way back from the road and they is hardly any noise once inside the
villas. There is quite a large main swimming pool as you walk down to the 1 and 2
bedroom villas.
We visited a 1-bedroom villa – the swimming pool is small, but there is the larger
communal one if you rally want to swim rather than just cool down. The
kitchen/lounge area is not large and the furnishings look very average – like a
moderately priced hotel, not a luxury villa. The sofa doesn’t look the least bit
comfortable.
The bedroom and bathrooms are large and the large sliding wooden doors in the
bedroom are very effective in blocking out the light for those people who love a really
dark bedroom!
Whilst the black tiles no doubt look very smart, they are very difficult to keep clean
and look dirty with the slightest bit of dust, leaves or footprints. I would hate to try to
keep them clean.
Breakfast is made in the main kitchen and brought to your villa or you can have it in
the restaurant area.
There is NO free WiFi, which is ridiculous when you think that even the smallest
cafes in Bali offer it to their customers – I don’t like this grab for extra money, it’s
totally unnecessary.

TAMAN DESA VILLAS - Canggu
This is a complex of 4 villas that is managed by the same group as the above villa and
is next door to Villa Tujuh. The office for both these villas is situated at the top of
this villa complex and I believe there is a gym too but didn’t see it. There is 1, 2-
bedroom, 2,3-bedroom and 1 with 4 bedrooms. The gardens for each villa look quite
large and fairly well established – there are large stepping pavers over waterways to
enter the villa gardens.
We visited a 3-bedroom villa, which was good – the pool is a decent size and the 3
bedrooms basically open onto the garden in a U shape. The bathrooms are a mix of
outdoor and indoor ones, so there is something for everyone. The master bedroom
has an outdoor bathroom.
The lounge/dining area is quite large and the kitchen is behind the dining area and
quite separate, which I do like! The décor is pretty traditional Balinese style and
looks good.
I forgot to ask about WiFi in both Tuju and Taman Desa! I must be getting tired…..

VILLA TERESA – BatuBolong Beach, Canggu
Well, this time I have saved the best till last – Villa Teresa is just gorgeous, although
once again we were unable to visit the bedrooms and bathrooms as the 2 villas were
occupied. The 3 bedroom villa is HUGE and the grounds are really magnificent – I
couldn’t believe it was only 1 villa – it is more like a small resort. The pool is very,
very large and really beautiful. This place really has the WOW factor and for the
price it offers really good value. You just have to check out the website:
Villa Teresa Bali
The 2-bedroom villa is also really lovely and about
. the price of the 3 bedroom – it
is behind the main one but is still really beautiful. The 2 villas can be joined so that a
group of at least 10 people can enjoy the whole complex.
I have to say that I was really impressed with these 2 villas and certainly didn’t expect
to find something of this standard hidden away at Echo Beach!
Go for it if you are considering staying there – you won’t be disappointed!

TONY’S VILLA - Petitenget
This complex is situated in Petitenget, directly behind Biku restaurant (which happens
to be one of my favourites). It is made up of bungalows, which are not bad at all
especially for the price and are situated near the main swimming pool and 1 bedroom
pool villas. I really believe this is one of the hidden gems of the whole area – lovely
atmosphere at a great price!
I really love the feel of this place – there is a very large reception area and an equally
large restaurant and lounge area and the gardens are well established and well
maintained. There is plenty of room to move around even if you are staying in one of
the bungalows – you are not restricted to your villa or bungalow.
The pool villas are good too and some of them are in the process of being renovated.
They have funny names though – Pinky1, Pinky2 etc! They are all very clean and
have king sized beds and a slightly bigger than plunge pool sized pool.
I knew nothing about this place before I visited and was really impressed with the
whole complex. Not sure about WiFi – forgot to ask but did see one guest in the
restaurant on her computer so maybe it is only in the common areas?

VILLA TUJUH – Pereranan (Canggu)
Finally found this villa but it is not Echo Beach, it is Pereranan, about 10 – 15 minutes
further towards Tanah Lot than Echo Beach. This is a stand-alone villa but they had
guests and we could not inspect it!!! Sorry. The guests are there until 17th January
and we can probably go then. Can you wait until then? I couldn’t see anything apart
from the alang alang roof as it is down a long driveway.

VILLA TUJUH
This is a lovely stand-alone villa with 4 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. The villa is
about 500 metres from Pererenan Beach and a short drive to Echo Beach with all its
restaurants (and building sites – yuk!) The land is on the banks of a small river.
The entrance is very impressive with waterways, fish ponds and statues - the lounge
/dining area is elevated and quite a large, airy area. The pool is on a slightly lower
level and there is a sundeck surrounding 2 sides of the pool.
On the lowest level of the garden there is a small, grassed area and also a tropical
bale. The kitchen is also on this lower level and opens out onto this grassed area that
also has a barbecue (you would, of course, have the chef do the cooking for you!)
The bedrooms are in separate building from the living area and they are basically 2 up
and 2 downstairs. Very nicely decorated. We only saw 1 bedroom but I guess they
are all much the same.
This is a very comfortable villa and would be a good place for a quiet, relaxing
holiday.

ULIN VILLAS - Seminyak
These villas are well located in the street that runs off Jl Laksmana at the side of
Ultimo restaurant – about 5 minutes walk from the main road. There are 14 villas
altogether with a mixture of 1,2 and 3 bedroom villas. We looked at a 1 bedroom
villa which is quite nice with a separate indoor lounge room where a single bed can be
put to accommodation a child. There is an outdoor area with 2 massage tables, and a
decent sized swimming pool. The 3-bedroom villa is on a very large piece of land
and has an absolutely huge swimming pool – the garden is also large as is the
lounge/dining area. The only fault with this is that the actual living area (with sofas)
takes up a small area and could be larger, considering the size of the overall living
area. The bathrooms are all very nice and the whole villa is very well maintained.
They have their own spa on the premises too - very peaceful villa complex and very
well located. It is about 15 minutes (hot) walk to the beach and has free WiFi.

UMA SAPNA - Seminyak
Well, this place certainly lives up to its reputation. The location is really very good,
although it would be quite a walk to the beach if you wanted to go there – probably
about 15 minutes. A short walk to Jl Laksmana and the shops and a quick walk down
the gang directly opposite to JL Raya Basangkasa (not recommended at night
though!)
We visited a 1 bedroom villa with spa pool (the smallest villa they have) but were
unable to actually go inside the bedroom as all villas were occupied but did peek
inside – the room looked quite large but there is no separate living area – a very small
table and 2 chairs outside where breakfast is served. Once again, if it were raining
then breakfast would have to be in the bedroom – not really a problem I guess.
There is no kitchen but who wants one anyway? There is a refrigerator and a desk
though and I guess they are the 2 essentials? There is WIFI in the villas.
There is also a larger communal swimming pool across the laneway – funny how the
property has a lane in the middle.
The staff is extremely friendly and I certainly would not hesitate to stay here.

ZIVA VILLAS
Great location once again – not very far from Mutiara Villas, in the same street that
runs parallel to Jl Laksmana, so not far from shops, restaurants and the beach.
These are new villas – open only since June – they are mainly 1-bedroom but there is,
1 /3-bedroom villa in the complex. We visited a 1 bedder and were VERY impressed.
The pool is about 12 metres long and quite large with a large sundeck and a sunken
kitchen/ dining area next to it. I do think they need to put in some sun umbrellas
though as this area is very hot.
The bedroom/lounge area is on the other side of the pool and has floor to ceiling glass
walls with lovely heavy blockout curtains. The bathroom is outdoors and the pool is
accessible from the bathroom (does that make sense?). It has all been beautifully
decorated and very well designed – minimalist and will look fabulous once the
gardens have grown a bit.
This is a very spacious 1-bedroom villa even though the lounge area and bedroom are
in the same room – they are divided by a bright red large screen TV which can swivel
to face either the bed or the lounge area.
Great villas with a lovely watermelon and milk welcome drink, which was very

welcome!
